Half-Pipe lighting

Half-Pipe illumination is a very specific lighting technique generally used for inspection of cylindrical shaped objects.

As the name suggests, these lights comprise a half-pipe shaped reflector which produces a tunnel of light from all angles perpendicular to the axis.  In many respects this technique gives similar results to dome illumination and thus can be used to illuminate spherical, aspherical and irregular surfaces.  They are also ideal for inspection of long and slender or cylindrical objects where edges and defects need to be emphasised.

Typical applications include; Engineering – metal rod/bar/pin inspection; Food Industry – Inspection of packaging (label inspection) when the surface is uneven  Also Identification of foreign material and colour recognition; Pharmaceutical – Inspection of tablets and sheet packs; Electronics – small components and embossed tape inspection.
