Basler launch new Sprint linescan models with ESC – Enhanced Shading Correction. This enables the shading correction capabilities to better deal with inhomogeneity in the image caused by (low quality) lens, sensor or inspected material. ESC cameras compensate differences in intensities between 25% and 100% while the standard shading correction in sprint cameras compensates differences between 67% and 100%. The resulting images appear more homogeneous, have less vignetting but may offer a bit more noise. Defects may appear bigger than they are.

The major advantage of the feature is that less light is needed and lower cost lenses with higher vignetting can be used. Also, the image appears more realistic, which is very important if operators directly monitor the inspection process, for example with print applications.
