So, why is the IMX 174 Sensor an excellent choice for Intelligent Traffic Systems?
The IMX174 sensor is currently considered one of the top sensors in the market. It combines high frame rates, outstanding sensitivity and excellent image quality. Its noise behavior is unmatched even by common CCD sensors. The IMX174’s superior sensitivity goes hand in hand with a dynamic range that has never been seen before in traffic cameras. This combination reduces the issue of over-exposed licence plates – a frequent cause of concern, especially in tolling and red light enforcement applications – by balancing the bright and dark areas in an image. This is a major achievement in the changing light conditions faced by many ITS applications. The dynamic range enables a very good imaging result of bright and dark areas, such as when the license plate is light, and the driver is sitting in the dark. This becomes possible by just one shot or exposure, without the need to set up a time-related averaging over several images. The latter approach uses ordinary IP cameras which can lead to motion blur, which gives unclear images, or even makes them unusable.
Basler are also offering the super sensitive IMX174 sensor in their industrial ace area scan camera models: the ace GigE cameras acA1920-50gm and acA1920-50gc as well as the ace USB 3.0 models acA1920-155um and acA1920-155uc.
