HALCON has had the ability to make your own laser-triangulation sensor using an off-the-shelf machine vision camera and laser for many years but the release of HALCON 12 makes it easier than ever to perform the calibration.
Sheet-of-light calibration in HALCON 12 is done using a 3D calibration object that looks like a chopped off pyramid sitting on a wedge. All you have to do to calibrate the sensor now is scan that object, provide the corresponding CAD file to HALCON, and let HALCON do the rest.
While MVTec does not offer 3D calibration objects, HALCON 12 users can call the operator create_sheet_of_light_calib_object to generate a customised CAD model of a calibration object. Then have the calibration object manufactured in the material you need.
