  1. Introducing the Leimac IRLMAR Series – A New Series of Ring Lights with Ethernet Power and Control, Designed for Machine Vision and Robotics

Comments Off on Introducing the Leimac IRLMAR Series – A New Series of Ring Lights with Ethernet Power and Control, Designed for Machine Vision and Robotics

The Leimac IRLMAR Series does not require a conventional light controller, being designed specifically for robot vision and space-constrained automation systems. By integrating the drive circuitry directly into the light head, the IRLMAR significantly reduces wiring complexity while maintaining high optical performance and stability required in demanding industrial environments.

    Designed for Robotic Integration

The IRLMAR Series has been developed with robotic and flexible inspection systems in mind. Traditional lighting setups often require external controllers, additional cabling and mounting space — all of which increase system weight, installation time and potential failure points.

The IRLMAR eliminates the need for a separate lighting controller, enabling:

    • Single-cable power delivery via IEEE 802.3af PoE
    • Reduced cabling between the robot arm and control cabinet
    • Simplified installation and commissioning
    • Lower overall system weight
    • Improved reliability in moving applications

Ideal for robot-mounted vision systems, where cable routing and flex fatigue are critical concerns, reducing wiring not only simplifies integration but also enhances long-term durability.

Integrated Drive Electronics for Stable Illumination

Despite no requirement for a separate lighting controller, the IRLMAR Series delivers stable, regulated light output suitable for precision machine vision tasks.

    Key technical features include:

    • Built-in regulated drive circuitry
    • Support for strobed and continuous operation
    • High-speed response suitable for camera-synchronised strobe operation
    • Excellent intensity stability for reliable and consistent imaging
    • Compact, lightweight housing optimised for robotic payload limits

The integrated regulated power architecture ensures stable illumination during PoE-powered operation, maintaining consistent intensity — essential for repeatable inspection results.

    Optical Performance & Configuration Flexibility

The IRLMAR Series is available in multiple diameters and colour (wavelength) options to suit a wide range of applications and camera types.

    Engineering highlights include:

    • High-intensity LED output using close tolerance LEDs for high uniformity
    • Multiple colour (wavelength) options (including visible and IR variants)
    • Narrow and wide beam angle selections to provide adjustable coverage over a range of working distances
    • Robust industrial housing for continuous production environments

Ring lighting geometry is particularly effective for reducing shadows and providing even illumination across flat or slightly contoured surfaces. This makes the IRLMAR suitable for applications requiring front-directed illumination characteristics similar to coaxial lighting, without requiring beam splitters.

    Built for Modern Automation

As machine builders continue to reduce their system footprints and increase robot flexibility, lighting must evolve accordingly. The IRLMAR Series addresses key engineering challenges — space, weight, wiring complexity and reliability — without compromising optical performance.

By integrating controller functionality within the light head, Leimac provides a practical, integration-focused solution that supports faster machine builds and simplified maintenance.
