New 3-CMOS Multispectral Prism camera from JAI

Fusion FS-1600T-10GE-NNM is the latest camera in the JAI Fusion series. This new model is a 3-CMOS multispectral prism camera for simultaneous image capture of one visible and two separate NIR light bands.

Based on the IMX273 sensor, the FS-1600T-10GE-NNM features three separate multispectral wavebands and enables the simultaneous capture of a 1.6-megapixel monochrome image plus 1.6 megapixel images from two separate near-infrared bands (740-800 nm and 820-1000 nm), all with perfect pixel-to-pixel alignment at up to a frame rate of 213 fps.

By splitting the NIR information into “low” and “high” bands, the FS-1600T-10GE-NNM helps designers of multi-spectral vision systems to deliver better results by leveraging the different way that some biological substances (in life sciences applications), foods, chemicals, and other materials appear when viewed in different portions of the NIR spectrum.

The camera interface is 10G BASE-T GigE (GigE Vision and GenICam compliant) but is backward compatible to NBASE-T (5Gbps / 2.5Gbps) and 1000BASE-T (1Gbps), making it both flexible and future-proof.

Applications for multispectral Fusion include:

· Food and vegetable sorting/inspection.

· Package inspection, especially printed plastic packages.

· Agriculture and vegetation analysis.

· Multi-layer electronic circuit board inspection.

· Medical imaging.

The cost, complexity and robustness are clear advantages of using a Fusion camera over the alternative solutions which require two or three separate camera/lighting set-ups or the mechanical systems and motion challenges created by filter-wheel types of multispectral cameras.

The JAI Fusion series are available with 2 or 3 CMOS sensors with either 1.6MP or 3.2MP and ensure simultaneous acquisition using a dichroic prism. This technology provides powerful solutions to complex imaging tasks that benefit from multispectral imaging.
